Is File1 Package Manager malware?

asked by about File1 Package Manager

I just updated Adobe Flash and when that was done, I found that File1 Package Manager had also installed and had launched and was in turn attempting to update my Ant.com video downloader. Pressing "cancel" did nothing, and when I went into the Task Manager (using ctl-alt-del) and clicked on "end process" I got an error message that I did not have authorization to end the process.

Eventually it ended on its own, but WTF? It looks like malware: downloading, installing, and running all without my knowledge or consent. When I Google it, there's almost no information out there about it.

I'll do a full system scan with Microsoft Security Essentials, but I'd also really like to know if anybody out there has heard of this.

I had experienced exactly the same thing. I couldn't stop it from downloading by itself. I think it's using Adobe Flash as a hide behind.
When I go to programs and features and I select the Unistall option it pretends to update the software on the computer.
What a nightmare, as it just pops up from I don't know where.
I have no idea how to block it.
If there is any help.
Thanks.

Same thing here. And tries to update. I once had it installed on here but have not used it for a year or so. Never saw it attempt to update until now. I'm also getting the File1 Package Manager when I first boot up. So far, it has been successfully stopped by using the task manager. I'm eager to lean about this one as well. Thanks!

I get the same thing and have had to end process in task manager to get rid of it, but it adds a shortcut to my desktop and starts up again each time I restart my computer and it was also connected with Flash or Java updates.

Do you have Ant Video Downloader installed? It looks like the File1 package manager is coming from their auto-update. http://www.ant.com/video-downloader/internet-explorer

I got rid of it by starting Windows in safe mode and delete all keys with references to file1 and Helios. Be careful when doing that - you can easily screw up something.

Needless to say that I also uninstalled Ant Downloader. Too bad - it was a good product.
