In order to sync your device with Thunderbird, I suggest you try Google Contacts. Both Thunderbird and Blackberry can access the Google Contacts service if you have a Google Account. Also, try using BlackBerry Desktop application. Once you launch it, connect your device, export the data to a .csv file and import it in Thunderbird using Tools > Import function. In the same way you can export the data from Thunderbird and import it to your device.
