I have Dell Inspiron N4010 laptop and its webcam has stopped working.

I have Dell Inspiron N4010 laptop and its webcam has stopped working and every time I try to use it, it gives an error message:
"Failed to start video recording. There may be a problem with the video capture device or the audio recording device."

I tried updating its driver (it says it's already up to date), reinstalling (Dell Webcam Central) but to no benefit, although it starts working sometimes in between and then again stops. I have been facing this problem for the past couple of months. Please help?

This could be a problem with the application, not the driver. Switch to YouCam for the time being to see if the problem was with Dell Webcam Central. Most users have problem recording even if the driver is installed correctly. Don't uninstall Dell Webcam Central because it contains the drivers needed for the webcam, instead just install YouCam.
