Every time I open my Internet, this starts up. If a news item appears, it blocks a quarter of my screen for sometimes a minute until it allows me to hit the X to close the new item alert. Every time, it eventually says there is an error, and the window is not responding, so I close it. I want to just get rid of it.

Can anybody help me?

Try running AdwCleaner. This application will access and scan rogue files and application and it will remove them using sophisticated background operations. Reboot the computer and those desktop alerts will be gone.

Alternatively, you can use msconfig in RUN window to access Startup and disable the application.
