First step that I suggest you do is to update your iTunes application. After that, right-click on the computer icon, select Manage and go to Device Manager. Select Universal Serial Bus controllers option, right-click on the USB Mass Storage Device, select Properties and go to the Details tab. If you will see a USB\VID_05AC entry, it represents the iPod. Uninstall the driver, restart your computer, go again to Universal Serial Bus controllers, right-click on the option and select Scan for hardware changes. Windows will automatically reinstall the driver. If this doesn't solve the problem, make sure that your iPod is fully charged and follow the steps from the troubleshooting guide provided by Apple.
