You need to check the log for details in order to identify the error. Go to Tools and click the Messages option or press Ctrl + M key combination. After the error is identified, you can check for a solution on VideoLAN Forums. To not complicate yourself, I suggest you to completely remove the utility from you computer using Add or Remove Programs feature and to download and install the latest version from the official web page.
