I suggest you update the USB drivers. Press the Windows + R key combination, type Devmgmt.msc and hit Enter. Go to Device Manager > Universal Serial Bus controllers, right-click on the utilities and press Update Driver Software. Select the Automatical option and press OK. Also, you can go to the HP Consumer Support web page. Select your Compaq Presario PC model, press the Drivers option, choose Windows XP as an operating system, download and install the provided files. If the problem is not solved, try connecting the MP3 Player to another computer. If it is also not recognized, it means that the device has a problem and you will need to contact its provider.
