Phones nowadays come with a support CD which contains drivers, manuals, a guide and applications. You can use the support software from that CD to backup the contacts from your phone. Install the software (the setup package will also install drivers required so the phone can communicate with PC) and plug-in the phone using the provided USB cable. From the main interface of the software, select Importing & Exporting (Backup) and choose contacts from SIM, Phone, Account etc. And that's it. You contacts will be saved to a proprietary file format or CSV, VCF etc.
