Yes, you are out of luck because the application requires a PC with a serial port and since you don't have one to connect the cable/device, it would be impossible to use it. But since we're living in an era filled with technology, it's possible to connect it to PC.
You will need a conversion cable which is very cheap to buy from Ebay or Amazon. Visit one of the websites and type: "USB TO Serial PORT".
