I've searched around the web for this issue, but couldn't find anything related, which means this is a localized issue with the software. The first thing I would recommend is backing up the contents found in the application. You can use the application's built-in features to do that. After this, completely reinstall the software and make sure that you also have the latest Java Runtime. Visual C++ Runtime and Netframework. Although these aren't "must have" components, it's possible to fix the issues with the drop-down displaying error.
Secondly, use the built-in HELP to locate possible issues with the application.
