I work in IT for a company that has used this software in the past in our accounting department. I received a request to install it on a user's PC, who is running Windows 7 64-bit, Enterprise. I got 2 error codes when trying to install the executable from a network share: "Setup can not be run via a UNC pathname. Please make an explicit network connection and run Setup again.", and "The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 or x64 version of the program, and then contact the software publisher."

Each error is from a different PC. Any ideas?

As the errors display:

  1. One computer is not using the correct architecture mode (32/64) versus the installation package you're using. It can be simply fixed by downloading the correct version for your operating system.

  2. Enterprise versions of Windows tend to require additional instructions in order to properly install packages through network, and this is caused by policies. Usually the SYSADMIN will give you all the permissions and instructions on how to properly assign a network share and use its packages.

Based on additional instructions, you should run the setup package as a DOMAIN user not as a local user because the paths will be wrongly identified. This solution is known to fix the issue.
