I have a Belkin N Wireless USB Adapter Z528 N10117. Can you tell me what it is used for?

Can you tell me what it is used for? I Have a Lenovo ThinkPad that I've been using my phone's free WiFi hotspot that's on my phone. Can I or should I use this adapter? Will it help?

Belkin N Wireless USB Adapter Z528 N10117 is a physical device that can be attached to a PC with Windows or Linux operating system. This is practically a WiFi network adapter that can be used to connect to surrounding networks. You can't attach this to a phone.
