Formatting a phone is roughly hard because of the resolution of mobile phone's display and the software in which you are trying to view the text. My suggestion is to try and convert your ASCII graphic to a simple image format using an ASCII to Image Converter and then send the image to the phone storage. Whenever you want to send a message, you can attach an image because most of the phones allow you to do such things. I recommend this method because the default SMS editor of phones do not support advanced formatting.
