I have bought my MacBook Air several years ago and as you know the configuration is a little low. So I don't know if it can play any Blu-ray movie since it takes a lot CPU to do this.

It all depends on your computer and its configuration. The computer needs to have at least a dual core processor and a dedicated GPU but that doesn't mean you can't try to play a file. Attach an external Blu-Ray ROM and play a file. If you notice any sound or image delay, it means that you will actually need to upgrade your MacBook. You can use VLC on Mac to play the file.

Blu-ray code is much harder than other formats so it will take much CPU of our computer to decode. Currently, only very few Blu-ray player on the market can do a hardware acceleration for playback. Macgo Mac Blu-ray Player is one of these. It's not a problem to watch Blu-ray movie on MacBook Air.
