If it doesn't recognize your printer, I suggest you upgrade the software to the latest compatible version. First, uninstall it from your computer using its uninstaller or Add or Remove Programs feature (Control Panel > Uninstall a program) and go to Canon Service and Support page to acquire the latest upgrade. Select your operating system if it is not automatically detected and download and install the application from the Drivers & Software section.
