What is FTDI CDM driver package for? And why do I need it?

I found driver package installed on my computer twice. Is this a necessary program and why is it installed twice?

This driver is required by products that have a FTDI chipset. If you know you didn't installed this driver, you can remove it without worry. Your system's functionality will remain the same.

I Purchased a ACTRON OBD II Auto scanner when I installed the scanner on my W7 laptop the same drivers were installed just like yours
