Why is the bell icon in the titlebar sometines red and sometimes not.

I think the title says it all. The titlebar contains an icon of a bell and it is red sometimes and sometimes it is dimmed out. I just need to know what that is trying to tell me.

The bell icon in the titlebar of the HiP2P Client for Windows changes color depending on the status of the program. When the bell icon is red, it indicates that there is a new message or notification. When the bell icon is dimmed out, it indicates that there are no new messages or notifications.
