When you install a webcam, the device automatically becomes available in the Hardware and Devices section (Windows 7) or My Computer (Windows XP) but if you want an application which does more than a simple view operation then you can always use an alternative for that kind of purpose. My suggestion is to try and use MyCam for basic camera functions like: screenshot, video capture, image manager, etc. The software is not device-branded, and it allows you to use any webcam available in the system.
