When I run troubleshooting in Windows 7, it tells me this is disabled. What is it and do I need it?

The Virtual NIC is a virtual network adapter that is installed for the VPN. The VPNs need their virtual adapters in order to function properly, although they also use the physical network adapter to connect to the Internet. That Virtual NIC is disabled until you start the connection. It's not an unusual thing to be disabled and you should let it in the state it is. If you initiate a VPN connection through the SonicWall, you'll see it activates itself. The Virtual NIC will be removed when then SonicWall VPN app will be removed as well.
