When I switch my phone on, it sticks on the Econet screen when it boots and when it (sometimes) loads it won't read my SIM card. I recently reset the phone to factory defaults and since then it has been doing this. I tried do a hard reset, but it either comes up saying error or it has Chinese symbols on the boot list.

Based on what you've said, it appears the phone is bricked. When a phone is bricked, the only way to restore it is through the Factory Default or flashing the default firmware. The second operations is riskier than the first one because it could permanently damage your device.

I recommend you to take the phone to a local phone service shop as they will provide all the necessary information and they will possibly fix it to restore its functionality.
