The Google way remains the only method you can use to unlock the pattern. If that is not working, then you will have to factory reset the phone which will erase some data, applications, settings, etc.
There is another way without using factory reset: go to a local phone service and they should remove the pattern without deleting your data (photos, music, settings, apps, etc). They have a hardware box that can access memory settings of the phone without resetting it.
